This page lists every place AI is used in WordHit Kids, written from the code rather than from intent.

Hard limits

  • AI chat available to children: no.
  • Free text typed by a child that can reach a model: none.
  • No AI decision is made about a child that has a legal or similarly significant effect.
  • No child’s data is used to train a third-party model by us.

While a child is using the app

  • Read-aloud narration (text to speech)

    What is sent:
    The word or lesson sentence to be spoken — text that the app itself authored. No name, no account id, no child input.
    Who receives it:
    Lovable AI Gateway (text-to-speech), when a gateway key is configured.
    Provider retention:
    Not independently verified by us. Treat as unknown until the provider confirms it.

  • Browser speech fallback

    What is sent:
    The same app-authored text, spoken by the device's own built-in speech engine.
    Who receives it:
    The device operating system. Nothing is sent to us or to an AI provider.
    Provider retention:
    Not applicable — processing happens on the device.

Behind the scenes, run by us

  • AI-assisted lesson drafting

    What is sent:
    A dictionary headword plus editorial instructions. Run by the operator, never by a child's device.
    Who receives it:
    Lovable AI Gateway (language model), when a gateway key is configured.
    Provider retention:
    Not independently verified by us.

  • AI-assisted editorial review

    What is sent:
    A draft lesson and a review checklist. Operator-run only.
    Who receives it:
    Lovable AI Gateway (language model), when a gateway key is configured.
    Provider retention:
    Not independently verified by us.

These run on the operator’s side while preparing lesson content. They never run from a child’s device and never receive anything a child did.

How lesson content is checked

Lesson content is drafted with AI assistance, checked by automated validation and an AI review stage, and recorded in an editorially approved allowlist where a human approval exists. We do not claim that every lesson has been reviewed by a person.

If the read-aloud service is unavailable

When no text-to-speech key is configured, or the request fails, the app falls back to the speech engine built into the device. In that case nothing leaves the device for narration at all.
