WordHit Kids is a vocabulary app for children aged 5 to 15. This page is written for the grown-up. There is a shorter, friendlier version for children on the Kids’ Privacy Notice page.
Our approach
- We ask for as little as possible, and the app works without an account at all.
- We never ask a child for an email address, a phone number or a precise date of birth.
- We do not collect location data and we do not use device identifiers for advertising.
- There is no behavioural advertising and no ad profiling of children.
- There is no open-ended chat between a child and an AI model.
- Optional purposes such as product analytics are off until a grown-up turns them on.
Playing without an account (guest mode)
In guest mode everything stays on the device. A nickname, an avatar, an age band, learning progress, XP, coins and streaks are saved in the browser’s local storage. We do not receive them and we cannot see them. Clearing the browser’s storage erases them permanently.

What we never do
- We do not sell personal data or share it with data brokers.
- We do not send marketing email to a child.
- We do not build advertising profiles or use tracking pixels.
- We do not ask a child to type free text that is sent to an AI model.
- We do not require a child’s real name; a nickname is enough.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of processors to run the service: cloud hosting and database, transactional email delivery for account messages, and — when configured — a text-to-speech service that reads a lesson word aloud. The read-aloud request contains only the text the app wrote; it carries no name and no account identifier. See the AI Use Disclosure.
How long we keep things
Draft periods for every category are listed on the Data Retention Policy page. Those periods are drafts pending review, and automatic deletion stays switched off until they are approved.
Rights and choices
A grown-up can ask for a copy of the data, correct it, or have it deleted. The Your Data Rights page explains how, including what happens to guest data that only exists on the device.
Changes to this notice
Each document carries a version. If a version changes in a way that affects what we do with a child’s data, we ask the grown-up to review it again before that processing continues.
